EXCERPTS from the LA Weekly about "Rise Above..." in its feature about the Silverlake Film Festival--

"Tribe 8 is a ferocious, all female, all-queer punk band from San Francisco whose members bare their breasts onstage and whose lead singer likes to pull a straight boy from the audience and give a blow job to the thick strap-on dildo poking out from the pouch of her men's underwear she's wearing. Filmmaker Tracy Flannigan gets it all in close-up, but also captures the rich and complex life stories of these women, whose lives take on political weight by virtue of sheer authenticity..."

And here's what it says about Tribe 8 and the show at Spaceland which will occur directly after the screening (free with a ticket to the film!)

"In a case of life recapitulating art, Tribe 8 play Spaceland following an early evening screening of a documentary about the San Francisco band, as part of the Silver Lake Film & Music Festival. It's about time somebody documented lead singer Lynn Breedlove's onstage antics, which include flashing her breasts and wielding a chain saw while spitting out the lyrics to dykecore anthems like "Femme Bitch Top" and "Tranny Chaser." Breedlove doesn't really want to scare you, so she leavens her radical lyrics and aggro tunes with sarcasm and silly puns ("Estrofemme"). Lest you think Tribe 8's mix of hardcore punk and slippery funk is only for lesbian separatists guitarists Leslie Mah and Lynn Flipper juice up Breedlove's rants with awesome and universal rock power.."
